When your fetus is 20 weeks old, you need to be subjected to a thorough scan in order to find details of growth of your baby. In case any problem is found, you need to discuss it in detail with your doctor. He will explain you everything. Most often, a repeat scan may be necessary in order to confirm the findings.

You never need to worry about a repeat scan. After all, around 15% of all the Pregnancy Scans are repeated. In case the problem is serious the repeat scan may need to be repeated quickly. If the repeated scan also confirms the problem, you will be referred to the fetal medical specialist.

In case you need to know the gender of your baby during the 20 week scan, you need to tell that to your sonographer at the beginning. This is because the baby has to be in the right position to examine the genital area.
