I know my writing I posted below is very flawed, as it’s a first attempt, but would you give me some feedbacks–comments, criticism, encouragements. Also, do I have the average writing skills of a 8th grader in the US?–since I’m Japanese and I live in Japan, I’m anxious my writing aren’t as good as my peers. Thanks for taking the time.
Someone had been here before me. The marble had been polished just recently. Leaving no trace of the earlier rain. It gleamed even in the dull sunlight, and I could see myself reflected on the smooth surface. I looked away.
A hawk cried out somewhere in the distance, an ominous sign. I scruntinised the sky for a moment, and then focused on the bouquet of flowers that were perched primly against the marble. These were flowers in red and yellow that I didn’t know the name of. The wide, curved petals felt like the cheeks of a baby, soft and alluring. I bent forward and sniffed, the overpowering scent evading my nostril. I arranged my daisies I had brought from home next to it, a poor comparison with its wilted corollas, browning on the edges like an aged piece of paper. It wasn’t until I raised a hand to wipe my upper lips when I realized the stems of the daisies I had been grasping had left long, narrow marks on my palm, perspiration pooling in the indention. I scraped out the mustard colluded pollums that were wedged between my fingernails as I read along the italics that were engraved upon the gravestone. “Beloved Son”. Carl Meyer. Beloved son. Was it is parents who had paid a visit to their dead son’s grave on his birthday, before five o’clock in the morning? It seemed all too unlikely, I thought, picturing their furnished house, sensible clothings, and the aghast expressions on their faces that day, when Ms. Meyer dropped by Carl’s room to offer us some drinks. In my mind, I could hear the sound of glasses breaking as they hit the floor, a piercing scream accompanied by hysterical sobbing. I felt spittle on my face as Mr.
Meyer grabbed my collar ferociously, feral anger in his eyes. Those were the exact eyes he passed onto Carl and yet the moment, they never seemed more different.
Stop, stop.
My breath got caught in my throat, and blood drummed in my ears. I felt nausea surging inside me, and instinctively, I took hold of the gravestone to prevent collapsing. A hawk cried out again.

Why do they need the knowledge and when do they use it?
Also, if you can, why do they need good communication skills – both verbal and non-verbal?
Verbal communication includes communicating in speech and by reading and writing. Some job roles require a high level of verbal skills. Some care workers have to be able to read and understand technical reports. Many care workers have to be able to write reports that are clear and accurate.
The ability to use speech effectively is also important. Care workers have to be able to speak clearly, and not only must they choose their words so that they are likely to be understood, but they must also ensure that they do not offend the client. Another verbal skill is questioning. This means asking the right questions and asking them in a way the client can understand. Another very important verbal skill is listening to and understanding what other people say.

- Reading
- Speech
- Listening:
Non-verbal communication
Non-verbal communication means aspects of communication apart from the actual words spoken. It includes tone of voice, speed of speech, use of facial expression, gestures, posture and eye contact. Like verbal communication, non-verbal communication involves both sending messages and attending to or receiving messages. It involves actions and observations of the other person’s actions. Good non-verbal communication skills are vital in many health and social care services.
Non-verbal includes:

- Posture
- Gestures
- Observation
